ADY, Iranian Railways discuss strengthening cooperation

A meeting took place between Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), a company within “AZCON Holding,”  and Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Head of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The meeting addressed bilateral cooperation, including the development of the Astara Terminal on the interstate border, as well as the expansion of trilateral relations among Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran.

Rovshan Rustamov highlighted the North–South Corridor as a catalyst for cementing Azerbaijan’s position as a strategic artery connecting trade flows along this important route. ADY Chairman elaborated that the reconstruction of the Sumgayit–Yalama railway line, an important segment of the North–South Corridor passing through Azerbaijan, will be completed by the end of this year.

He also noted that the construction of the Astara Terminal on Iranian territory by ADY is planned to be finalized in the first quarter of 2026.

It was reported that 94 percent of the design work and approximately 82 percent of the construction and installation work for the Astara Terminal have been completed.

The terminal, which will be fully operational next year, will ensure an increase in cargo volumes along the North–South transport link and enable more efficient and timely operations.
