Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), a company within AZCON Holding, participated in the panel discussions titled “Development of Railway Infrastructure Across the Eurasian Region” at the 7th International Transport and Logistics Business Forum “New Silk Way” held in Kazakhstan.
The discussions covered topics such as the integration of the Middle Corridor, ports and railways, technological modernization, and the enhancement of transit capabilities.
The ADY Chairman emphasized that the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway plays a vital role in the regional transport system as the main freight route between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.
He noted that the BTK and the Zangezur Corridor together will enhance the region’s transit capacity, creating a unified network that supports trade flows.
Referring to ADY’s current freight transportation performance, Chairman Rovshan Rustamov highlighted that during the first nine months of this year, 296 block trains, including 113 transit trains, arrived from China via the Middle Corridor. This figure significantly exceeds that of the same period last year (213 trains).
He also underlined that the integration of the Port of Baku into ADY in february this year has further expanded regional transport prospects, reducing transit times and additional logistics costs while increasing the speed and competitiveness of freight operations.
Within the framework of Kazakhstan Transport Week, the heads of the railway administrations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia — Rovshan Rustamov, Talgat Aldibergenov, and Lasha Abashidze — signed a Roadmap on eliminating bottlenecks along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
According to the document, the priority areas include improving infrastructure, renewing rolling stock, optimizing operational procedures, strengthening coordination among the three countries for the development of the Middle Corridor, maintaining and enhancing infrastructure and operational efficiency, and preparing for increasing freight volumes.
Also as part of Kazakhstan Transport Week, the 28th Kazakhstan International “Transport and Logistics” Exhibition is being held, with the participation of companies from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, the UAE, Germany, China, Latvia, Estonia, India, Russia, and Belarus.
