Cooperation between Azerbaijan Railways and Iranian Railways Discussed Across Several Directions

A delegation from Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), headed by Chairman Rovshan Rustamov, visited the Islamic Republic of Iran to review the current state of the railway infrastructure in the city of Julfa.

During discussions with Iranian officials, the project of constructing a railway bridge over the Araz River, with the involvement of both countries, was highlighted. It was noted that this project would ensure sustainable land connectivity, linking Nakhchivan with the mainland of Azerbaijan through Iranian territory. Representatives of ADY also familiarized themselves with the operations of the wheelset replacement workshop for railway vehicles located in Julfa.

As part of a follow-up visit to the Iranian city of Astara, ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov held a meeting with the head of Iranian Railways, Jabbar Ali Zakery Sardroudi.

During the meeting, the railway leaders discussed the key phases and timelines for the development of the Astara terminal, with all work scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. They also addressed new areas of cooperation and funding plans.

Additionally, discussions included the activities of the South Cargo Terminal (Cənub Yük Terminalı MMC), which manages terminals in Astara on both Azerbaijani and Iranian territories. The participants agreed on joint steps to expand cooperation and resolve issues of mutual interest.
