On January 29, Rovshan Rustamov Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, a company within AZCON Holding, met with Lasha Abashidze, CEO of Georgian Railways JSC, and Tamara Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, in Tbilisi.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of railway transport were discussed.
It was noted that Georgia and Azerbaijan continue to successfully cooperate to enhance the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and attract additional cargo.
The meeting focused specifically on the signing of the final handover acceptance act for the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway project and on increasing freight volumes along this line.
It should be noted that ADY has successfully completed repair, rehabilitation, and modernization works on the 184-kilometer section of the BTK line passing through Georgia, which features complex geographical terrain. As a result, the annual freight capacity of the line has increased from 1 million tons to 5 million tons. The main goal of modernizing this railway line is to enhance the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and make the BTK one of the main freight transport arteries of the corridor.
