Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia Discussed More Efficient Use of the Middle Corridor's Potential

On March 4, as part of the events of the International Association of Legal Entities "Trans-Caspian International Transport Route" (TITR) held in Baku, a trilateral meeting took place between Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, David Peradze, CEO of Georgian Railways JSC, and Nurlan Sauranbayev, Chairman of the Board of "Kazakhstan Railways" National Company JSC.

During the meeting, the necessary measures for organizing coordinated activities to ensure the timely delivery of container cargo from China to Europe were discussed, along with ensuring the uninterrupted, reliable, and efficient operation of international transport corridors. In particular, the discussion focused on the organization of the Middle Corridor Multimodal LTD joint venture, established between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia.

The regional importance of cooperation between the railway administrations of key transit countries in the Middle Corridor for freight transportation was emphasized, as well as the significant contribution of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway line, whose capacity has been increased to 5 million tons per year, to the development of East-West transport.

The parties noted the successful dispatch of the first container block train from Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics center, which was opened in March last year in Xi'an, China.

It was also highlighted that in 2024, a total of 287 block trains were received from China to Azerbaijan and Europe, with efforts underway to increase this figure to 600 trains this year.

Special attention was given to the importance of joint efforts to accelerate cargo flows through TITR, with an emphasis on how this cooperation could elevate the China–Central Asia–Azerbaijan route to a new global level.

The parties also emphasized that diversifying the areas of joint activities between railway administrations would help increase freight volumes and ensure more efficient utilization of the Middle Corridor’s potential.
