Freight Wagons

Freight cars are rolling stock units designed for transporting goods by rail. They vary by the number of axles, body material, load capacity, and area of application. Freight wagons are categorized into two types based on specialization: universal and specialized. Universal freight wagons are used for transporting a wide range of packaged, bulk, or loose goods. Specialized freight wagons are intended for transporting specific types of cargo.

Universal Freight Wagons

Specialized Freight Wagons Covered wagons Open-Top wagons Platforms
Brief Description Enclosed rolling stock that protects cargo from weather, wind, and even theft. Suitable for transporting packaged and unpackaged goods. Loading is typically done from the side through sliding doors. Open-top wagons are equipped with high-sided bodies that allow for fast loading and unloading of goods. There are two types: hopper cars (with unloading hatches in the floor) and solid-bottomed cars (without hatches). Structurally, the rolling stock consists of an open platform with low side and end walls, or sometimes without walls at all.
Wagon Purpose Used for transporting packaged and individual goods (such as food products, various equipment, machines, bulk packaged goods, etc.). Used for transporting bulk and loose goods that do not require protection from the weather, containers, motor vehicles, and long items (such as timber, pipes, metal, etc.). Used for transporting large, oversized, and long loads, such as metal pipes, wheeled or tracked vehicles, construction and road machinery, machines, timber, and other goods that do not need weather protection.

Specialized Freight Wagons

Types of Freight Wagons  Tank Wagons  Hopper Wagons Car Wagons  DumpCar
Brief Description A freight wagon designed to transport liquid products with a body shaped like a cylindrical tank, equipped with loading hatches, discharge/loading systems, and control and shut-off valves. A self-discharging freight wagon with a body shaped like a funnel, with hatches at the bottom that open to release the cargo by gravity for quick unloading. A specialized two-tier wagon with end doors instead of side doors. Inside, the car is equipped with a standard securing system using blocks for safe transportation of automobiles. It can be open or closed depending on cargo protection requirements. A specialized wagon with a tilting body powered by a pneumatic system for mechanized unloading, as well as sides that tilt when the body is tipped.
Wagon Purpose Used for transporting liquid cargo (oil, light and dark petroleum products, chemicals, liquefied gas, food products, etc.). Used for bulk transport of loose goods that require protection from weather (grain, cement, mineral fertilizers, etc.). Used for transporting passenger cars and other small-sized wheeled vehicles. Used for transporting loose and bulk cargo (overburden and rock materials, coal-ore cargo, soil, sand, gravel, etc.).

Types of Freight Wagons Refrigerated Wagons  Thermal Wagons Specialized Platform  Transporter
Brief Description An insulated wagon used for transporting goods that require a controlled temperature during transit. The temperature is maintained by a refrigeration unit. Refrigerated wagons can be sectional (operated in conjunction with a diesel-generator wagon) or autonomous (with separate refrigeration equipment located at the ends of the car). An insulated wagon designed for transporting thermally prepared perishable goods. Unlike refrigerated wagons, thermal cars do not have a refrigeration unit. Temperature is maintained by the insulation of the cargo space. As a result, thermal cars have restrictions on the duration and distance of transport. Specialized platforms are divided according to the type of cargo they transport: for timber, for contrailers, for large containers (fitting platforms), for metal products, for vehicles, and more. They are equipped with mechanisms for securing cargo and facilitating loading/unloading operations. A specialized open rolling stock characterized by a reinforced structure, greater load capacity compared to universal platforms, and a low loading platform, enhancing load stability and allowing for reduced load height during transportation. Transporters can be platform, deck, well-type, articulated, or coupled types.
Wagon Purpose Used for transporting perishable goods at temperatures between -20 and +16 degrees Celsius. Used for transporting thermally suitable perishable goods with extended delivery time limits. Used for transporting specific types of cargo such as containers, road and construction equipment, timber, vehicles, metal products, and more. Used for transporting heavy, oversized, and over-dimensional cargo (e.g., large transformers, parts of hydraulic turbines, stators and rotors of generators, columns, machine frames, etc.).
